Garmin Connect

I want to give a shout out to Garmin for finally getting it right on the software front. They’ve been cranking out great GPS workout tools for a long time but the accompanying desktop client (Garmin Training Center) is pathetic. Its features are basic and the interface looks twenty years old. Great hardware should really be coupled with better software.

As a Mac user, I was happy to shell out a few bucks for a program called Ascent a while ago. It’s a decent workout log and more pleasing on the eye than Training Center. I have also played around with the trial version of rubiTrack. While it looks prettier than Ascent, I didn’t find it as useful. But both of these programs are better than any desktop client offered by Garmin itself.

Enter a revamped Garmin Connect. This is basically another online workout log but now with more features and a polished look. I particularly like the activity embed feature, which is great for sharing particular workouts (see my previous post).

This is a big step forward and I look forward to future enhancements.
